Profiles of Some of our Great Tutors

MOHAMMED MIAH

Having taught from 2007, I have gained valuable experience which I love to pass on to my students. When tutoring my aim is to give students the skills that will help them learn independently. Independent learning is key as retention equates to 90% of the topic learnt.

I have a degree in Mathematics, PGCE in Mathematics and I have been an examiner for the since 2009. I examine GCSE papers for OCR, Edexcel, WJEC and AQA. I also examine functional skills for Edexcel.

I am able use my examiners knowledge and up to date assessment material to enhance students' knowledge of the subject particularly during exam periods.

I believe in developing independent learning skills for students to achieve to the potential in all areas of learning.

STEVE BUTTON

My name is Steve Button, originally from Sheffield and now residing in East Lancashire. I have 2 children, 1 of school age and 1 just starting University 2022. I enjoy lots of outdoor activities, cycling, hiking, bird watching and a bit of climbing.

My teaching background has been in the FE and HE sector over the past 20+ years. I have a BSc (Hons) degree and an MA postgraduate degree and I have recently registered for a PhD, carrying out research within the Recreation & Tourism business environment.

My subject specialisms are Business Studies, Economics, Geography, Tourism and Study Skills such as assignment structuring, research and presentations.

I like to work with students initially to develop a realistic action plan to work on students’ weaknesses and maintain strengths. This enables a good use of our time together. As most students are now well practised with on-line tutoring this is the mode I deliver my sessions on. I can provide access via Teams, Zoom and also Webex or Google if required. In between sessions I can provide additional support such as reading essays and assignments or building a portfolio of revision sources.

Currently working at Lancashire College and West Highland College.
